Monitoring 5.1 in Resolve, the easy way.

Since Fairlight was introduced it has been a bit of a problem to setup a timeline to just monitor a 5.1 mix. I have seen many different ways to do it, and here is one more 🙂

Import the 6 mono audio files into the Media Pool

Create a new timeline and give it 6 mono audio channels

Then go to the Fairlight page and select “Link Group” from the Fairlight menu.

Shift-select all 6 audio channels and select 5.1 film (L, C, R, Ls, Rs, Lfe) or 5.1 (L, R, C, Lfe, Ls, Rs).

Then select “Bus Format” from the Fairlight menu

and set Main1 to 5.1

Now just drop the audio files on the timeline in either 5.1 or 5.1 Film order and you are done.
